What is a CVR API?
CVR is the Danish Central Business Register, where every Danish company is registered with an 8-digit CVR number. A CVR API is an address on the internet that your system can ask: what do you know about CVR 10403782? It gets a structured answer back in a second.
That saves you from looking companies up by hand on Virk, and it lets you keep a CRM up to date, enrich a customer list or build a lead list automatically.
Lead Strategist combines the CVR register with the annual reports that companies file with the Danish Business Authority, and serves both through one REST API and an MCP server for AI assistants, on the same account.

Developers and analysts

CVR API compared with the usual alternatives
There is no single right choice. This is what each option is typically good at.
| Option | Best for | Annual-report figures | Works in ChatGPT and Claude | Needs a developer |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Virk and the CVR register | Single lookups in the official source, free of charge | Annual reports as documents (PDF and XBRL) | No | Yes, for system access |
| Company lookup websites | Looking at one company in the browser | Often shown on the page | No | No, but no API either in most cases |
| Other CVR APIs | Integrations; several include more data, such as owners | Varies by provider and plan | Some have an MCP server | Yes |
| Lead Strategist | Company data and financials in one call, in code or in your AI assistant | Yes, as figures, on every plan | Yes (MCP) | Only for the API; not for ChatGPT or Claude |

Questions
- What does the CVR API cost?
- Nothing while we are in beta: every account gets 20,000 credits per account per month, no card needed. One successful lookup or search uses one credit, and failed calls are free. After the beta, prepaid credits start at 50 kr and plans at 39 kr a month excl. VAT, and we email you at least 30 days before paid plans start.
- Isn't CVR data free?
- Yes. CVR data is public, and you can get it at no cost from the Danish Business Authority, either on Virk or through system access that you integrate yourself. What you pay for here is having the register and the annual-report figures collected, cleaned and delivered in one API, ready to use. The data is CC BY 4.0, so credit the source when you reuse it.
- Which annual-report figures are included?
- Revenue (when the company reports it), gross profit, EBIT, net income, equity, total assets and average employees, with period and accounting class, for about 460,000 companies. Small companies often report gross profit instead of revenue.
- Can I search by industry and municipality?
- Yes. GET /companies filters by name, industry code, municipality, postcode, region, employees and revenue, and returns up to 50 companies per call.
- Do I need to be a developer?
- Not if you use ChatGPT, Claude or Cursor: connect the MCP server and ask in plain language. The REST API is for building your own integrations.
- Are owners and board members included?
- No. We do not deliver data about people. If you need owners, boards or credit ratings, another provider is a better fit.
